NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION OF MODERN DANCE (NZAMD)

Dunedin Dance Academy offers the NZAMD American Tap and Jazz syllabus which is modern, fun and exciting. The syllabus allows students to develop their own style through freedom of arm work whilst developing and maintaining good technique.

JAZZ

The Jazz syllabus is designed with comprehensive warm ups, stretches, floor work, progressions from corners with turns, kicks and jumps and fun combinations.

TAP

The Tap syllabus is designed with barre work, centre work, and set or teachers’ own choreographed dances. The Tap choreography develops an exciting rhythmical array of beats throughout the levels, taking NZAMD Tap well into the 21st century.

INTRO TO DANCE

A great introduction to Tap and Jazz, these classes are aimed at 5-7 year olds to give students exposure to both styles of dancing. Classes include techniques and structures that give students the foundations for their dancing to develop as they later progress into the exam classes. Tap shoe hire is available if parents wish to avoid the expense of purchasing children their own shoes.

PRESCHOOLERS

Classes are aimed at 3-4 year olds that can’t stop dancing at home! The overall emphasis is on fun, while gently introducing skills such as balance, coordination, play acting, movement to music, rhythm and timing. Tap dancing is included at the end of class and children love experimenting with the sounds the shoes can make.

ADULTS

Adult Tap classes are offered from beginner levels, for those with no experience, through to intermediate levels, for those that may have dabbled in the past. The classes are a great way to stay fit, meet friends and have a lot of fun. There is no pressure in the classes and the teachers are driven by what the students are comfortable with.
